Artist Biography
Deanna Cluff was born in the small town of Pell Lake, Wisconsin, and won her first art award at the age of 6 years old in a statewide art contest. Through her childhood and teenage years, she spent many hours drawing, painting and haunting the spaces of the Art Institute of Chicago. She attended Badger High School in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, which was well known for having the best high school art department in the state. There, she learned drawing, painting, jewelry making, ceramics, crafts and photography. Upon graduating high school, she attended Arizona State University studying for her BFA in drawing. A bad motorcycle accident in her junior year sidelined her for many years, during which she married and established her home in Central, Arizona. Having never given up on her dream of finishing her degree, she finally went back to school and finished her BFA. She is now nearing completion of her MFA in Figurative Painting through the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. Deanna’s work had always been in drawing, and she became very adept at draftsmanship, which became the base skill for her paintings. She is becoming well known for her likenesses in her people/animal portraits. She loves animals, and is fascinated by the relationships that people make with animals. Her work strives to show those relationships and the emotional aspects bsetween humans and their pets. Deanna is a board member of the Art Guild of Eastern Arizona. Her dream is to be able to teach art on a high school or community college level, and it is this goal she is striving to accomplish. Deanna continues to reside in Central, Arizona with her wonderful husband, Dan, and enjoys the time spent with 19 grandchildren.
